Perth Women Spoil Adelaide Party
A rousing 1-4 win on the road by Perth Steel Women, in front of a massive Adelaide Storm home crowd at Adelaide 36ers Arena, has put them one game away from securing top spot on the 2023 Scape Australian Volleyball Super League ladder as they head into a big finals series in Bendigo on the weekend of 16-17 September.
The Steel took the first set 13-18 before Adelaide responded in the second and levelled the scores by winning 18-16. With ladder positions still up for grabs every point and set was crucial, and neither side wanted to give up their opportunity.
The third set went all the way to the final available rally. The teams effectively went point-for-point all the way to 17-17. Cameron Zajer won the crucial 17th rally point for the Storm to keep them in the hunt for the crucial set, but on set point the Steels Jackie Tamburri produced a stinging unstoppable hit that secured them a 17-18 set win.
The big loss in the third set left the Storm deflated, and they slumped to a 3-18 fourth set loss. The Steel then rounded out the big win with a 15-18 final set win that was enough to put them in touch of Queensland on the ladder with one more match in hand.
