Pirates, Storm Share the Spoils in Adelaide

South Australia hosted their first round of the Scape Australian Volleyball Super League with the Adelaide Storm welcoming the Queensland Pirates to the Lights Community and Sports Centre. The two clubs had to split the points, though, with the Pirates Women winning 2-3 and the Storm Men winning 3-2.

The Storm Men started strong, taking the first set 18-15, but then conceded the next two sets to the Pirates 17-18 and 16-18 to have them under threat. Nathan Roberts and Cooper Peacock were brilliant for the Storm as they romped away in the final two sets 18-12 and 18-10, keeping them equal top of the Men’s ladder after three rounds.

A pulse-pounding five-setter in the Women’s match had the Pirates claim an important away win to send them top of the ladder. The sides went set for set 10-18, 18-14, 7-18, and 18-17 to be all square heading into the fifth and deciding set. Kylee White and Kayla Cantrill had excellent games for the Pirates to guide them to a final set win 14-18.
