Storm Women Extinguish Heat
The Adelaide Storm have defended their home turf against the in-form Canberra Heat, defeating the visitors 4-1 in a dominant display at The Lights Community and Sports Centre in round 4 of the Scape Australian Volleyball Super League.
Elke Jarvis and Cameron Zajer led Adelaide to commanding wins in the first two sets (18-12, 18-12) with their serving and precision hitting. Canberra have been something of a surprise-packet this season, collecting enough points to keep them in the top four and on-course for the final series in Bendigo, and stayed true-to-form with a huge effort in the third set to throw a challenge down against the home side.
Kimberley Vogel was brilliant at the net for the Heat as they threatened to block their way back into the game, but Storm Captain Rebecca Reeve put on a hitting clinic to counter Canberra’s efforts, leading them to claim the third set 18-16.
Adelaide then stormed away in the fourth set, calling an early powerplay and taking the maximum points from it while collecting eleven unanswered rally points before the Heat could get on the board. The Storm took the set 18-5, but the final set saw Canberra find a rhythm and go point-for-point before eventually winning it 16-18 to claim what could be a crucial two competition points that keep them inside the top four.
